From December 2007, and gradually, transporting heavy cargo will have a new entrance to the Port of Valparaiso allowing a better flow of traffic at the port's entrance.
Of 23 kilometers long, the new South Access will be a modern and efficient highway connecting the areas Curauma-Placilla and Logistic support extension zone (Zeal), with the cargo transfer terminals at the port.
The Southern Access is a new and direct alternative to vehicles travelling through Route 68 or Route 60 CH that are moving towards Puerto Valparaiso without going through the cities downtown.
In general term, the roadwork includes the construction of tunnels with modern operation and security, major bridges and viaducts. It also considers a waterfront - inserted in the Bicentennial Plan-which includes a stretch of coastline, from Las Torpederas beach to The El Membrillo cove and improvement of Altamirano Avenue.
This urban mega-project strengthens Valparaiso’s image as a port city and the entire region will benefit from added land value as well as improved access to the main port due to returning the edge of the costal city, recovery of land and expansion of potential development poles in the southern sector of Valparaiso.
